I feel like it's a vanity plate thing and now I need to figure out what it means:

    I was naughty today...
    And bought my first Kenner!

I logged on to ebay this morning and at the top of the newly listed auctions was a blond Kenner with a reasonable BIN. I checked the seller had good feedback (they did) and then I clicked the button. My heart was totally pounding the entire time - there was a blurb that says until you pay someone else can buy it - and once I got the receipt from Paypal, I was doing the happy dance :-)

The seller has already sent her out to me via priority mail, so I should have her sometime in the middle of next week - I'm so excited!

    Here's her auction pic:

I swear I'll take more when she arrives - I'm really looking forward to getting her!

    New Year's Resolutions...
I rarely make new year's resolutions, as they're nearly impossible to keep. In fact, I think my best resos were from 2002, having to do with all the fun things I wanted to do: Learn Chess, learn acoustic guitar and get in touch with my inner bitch (ie - all things I thought I could actually accomplish). I did OK, learned one chord on the guitar and bought myself a chess set, oh, and got so in touch with my inner bitch that she's pretty much taken over ;-) hehehe. Let's just say I'm not as mousy as I used to be and believe in standing up for myself when necessary.

So, with that said, here goes:

    1) continue to "watch what I eat". There's a contest at work to get people in shape - including meeting with a nutritionist, so I'm looking forward to setting up a plan to get back to my fighting weight. I've lost 4 pounds over the week and a half I've been out of work (without really trying), so I'm on a roll! Only 15 more pounds to go...

    2) sell my unwanted sewing patterns and Burda magazines on ebay. Heck, I might be able to fund half a Kenner with what's piled up on my dining room table (ok, a cheap Kenner with loads of problems). This should also help with some of my clutter problems.

    3) take more time off work. I've really enjoyed my respite from work this week and want to better balance my work and play time.

    4) keep sewing and knitting - both for myself and the girls. I've really enjoyed all the Blythe knitting I did this year and want to keep going with it - in fact, you may see my mom getting in on the act ;-) And, I'd love to be able to get through my yarn and fabric stash - or at least make a huge dent in it!!!!

    5) keep in better contact with my friends - work's taken over my life to the extent I've lost touch with people who mean a lot to me. I hope to rectify that in the coming year.

All in all, I think I can tackle the above and make a good move forward in my life.

Do You See What I See?
I've been on a knitting/sewing frenzy the last few days, along with cleaning up around the apartment (and managing to kick up enough dust to make both nxtdrguy and I feel ill) and have finally found the inspiration to make my first full Blythe outfit. Here's the fixings:

Do you see what I see?

The material is a 70s or 80s doubleknit - not stretchy at all - and the yarn is a gorgeous burgundy, cream and teal for the fairisle. I am so glad to have this week off so I have time to play with my dolls and make them clothes!

    Ewwwww update
I managed to clip the ingrown claw and the piece fell out when she jumped off my lap. I put hydrogen peroxide on it and today she's none the worse for wear. Even woke me up this morning. :-)

    Ewwwww
    Don't read if you're squeamish...

I've neglected trimming the cats' claws for a couple months now and Gabbana has an ingrown claw now. Bleccchhhh! No more OT at work for me - time to take care of my own. Poor thing! All her other claws are now trimmed and I'll take another look in the morning before deciding if she needs a trip to the vet or if it looks like I can handle it here. She's been hydrogen peroxided, so hopefully it won't be as gross in the morning.

Here she is in pre-ingrown claw days:

She looks pissed in this foto, which is about how she looked tonight when I was checking her out. I can't believe I let it go that long :-(

What accent do you have (stolen from Leenda)
What American accent do you have?
    Your Result: The Midland

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

    I Made This!
My boss made me take Friday off as I was so stressed I let my coworker know just how much his daily lunch with chips was irritating me. It's funny when you think about it, but haven't you ever noticed that it's the little things that irritate you more than the big ones?

Anyway, it was great to have the time off - even though I got called about 5 times regarding my projects. I told them I'd rather they call me to ask about them than for me to return to work on Monday and ask why they didn't call me...

So, I've had three glorious days at home - did I clean up? Only a little, but wow did I sew. My poor neglected sewing machine got my full attention this weekend. I made 3 skirts for myself, with 2 others in process, and 2 skirts for Blythe. I also sewed the seam on a knit beret I made a few weeks back (I love to knit but hate to sew all the bits together).

The Blythe skirts turned out very cute - one is a prototype for Carmen. She spied a picture on my flickr with some yarn and fabric and we batted some ideas back and forth. So, I tried one out for her (Hope you like it!). I also found some fabric for a blouse that I'll have to try out this week.

Here are the two Blythe skirts I made today:

    Maxi skirt

    Mini skirt

I also went to the thrift store yesterday. Scored a couple 80s patterns, some great cotton fabrics that need a wash and a Licca doll and friend. The friend has a problem, as you see in this photo. Poor girl:

    Thrift Store finds

I haven't decided what to do with them, but I know the Licca could come in handy if I decide to customize any of my girls ;-) Besides, she's got her original ball gown and white granny panties - what's not to love about her?

People suck and then they suck some more
After a 13 hour work day (yes! a new record!), Nxtdrguy and I left work to find someone had hit his car in the work parking lot. Another half hour while he chated with security and I emailed my boss to let him know why I was at work so long. Basically, another co-worker is trying to push some of his work off onto my group, which is how do I put this.... WRONG! It's a technical report that my group has no business being involved in, since the person chuffing it off on us is in charge of production and we're more customer service oriented. Argggh. Thankfully, I'm not the only one in my group who feels this way. In fact, we all mutinied last week, so there's a very good chance the guy trying to get out of it will be stuck doing it full-time (muahahahahaha). The stoopid report took me 25 minutes - much longer than his "oh, it'll only take a few minutes" BS he was talking about. I'm full up on the amount of work I have to do and cried all the way from the office to the parking lot while Nxtdrguy listened to me be a big baby about it. Then when I was about to pull out of the parking lot, I saw him talking to security and found out someone had hit his car. I turned right around and waited with him at his car for security to come so he could file his report. I even stopped crying as that definitely put things in perspective for the night.

I'm still not happy with the workload, and really miss normal days when I could get home and laze in front of the TV for a few hours before going to sleep. Now, I rush home to go to sleep so I can get up to do it all over again. I feel bad as I've lost touch with several people, but I remember to call them around midnight and then realize we're not in college anymore and no one likes calls after 9pm anymore. Hell, I was crying about what a sty my place is - now you know my workload is bad when I give a crap about that!

Fcuk it. Now I'm going to bed.

    Mmmmm - Chocky Cake good....
I just got home from another 12 hour work day and found the leftover chocky cake from Outback Steakhouse in the fridge. It makes a tasty comfort-food dinner.* :-D

I've called my client at home to let them know their project just shipped and I'm frickin' tired. But, I still have to work on my dress for my friend's wedding this weekend and then wake up early to go do it all over again. I'm so overwhelmed, it's not even funny. Hell, I was so tired I couldn't even cry this afternoon. Now that's just sad.

Speaking of sad, I've taken one day off since May and my boss yelled at me and made me cry on that day. :-( Come to think of it, I'm not liking the workload so much right now...

On the plus side, I got a package from Squeaky Monkey yesterday, so I took a picture of Clancy (VS) this morning wearing her new Squeaky flares. I need to play with her more - she's definitely one of my neglected Blythes at the moment (most are being neglected while I go through hell).

    Thank you, Tiff!

    I Made This!
I'm feeling a little bummed that I haven't had much time to sew lately (work will even out in the next 4 weeks and then I'm so taking a few days off for me and my Bernina - how luxurious!), so I thought I'd share some of my favorite pieces made over the last few years (I've made more than just this, but I don't think anyone wants a dissertation on everything I've ever made beginning age 10 - that would be like being forced to watch a slide show of someone else's vacation. B-O-R-I-N-G!)

In order of creation (first to last) we have:

My most favorite top (a wee bit snug on me at the mo', so I keep it around like the skinny jeans to torment myself):
    brocade top

One of my fave purse designs - it's small, but holds all the essentials. You can't tell in this photo, but the lining is Zebra print - so sexy!
    Mini evening bag

Then my absolute favorite belt ever - I saved bottlecaps forever to finally have enough (and now have a serious surplus - I still save them for future projects - have another belt in the works, too). I used a man's webbed belt bought at Target and then went to town with tools bought at Sears.
    Bottle cap belt

Here's a little capelet I made earlier this year (once knitting became my portable craft of choice). I think it took about an hour on 17 or 35 needles. It was crazy fast.
    Capelet

Finally, we have a scarf made from left over Colinette Point 5 - I think the color is Florentine. I'd bought the yarn to make a sweater from the Yarn Girl's Guide, which turned out so huge! Of course, I didn't understand gauge (it was my first completed sweater), but even if I'd gotten gauge, it still would have been hideous. It got frogged and turned into: a poncho, a hat, another scarf and this scarf. There's even just shy of one ball left, which will either be another hat or fringe for this scarf - that's how freakin' big the sweater was..... Anyway, I like the scarf 'cos it's simple and has gorgeous jewel colors to boot.

Apologies for the crap flash photos, but I didn't feel like waiting til morning to get good lighting for these ;-P

Happy Birthday, Snoopygirl (Hilary)!!!!! - part deux!
We ate (and drank) at a Hollywood eatery called Citizen Smith - food was really good. There was some drinking (wine) and loads of comfort food - steaks, mac and cheese, burgers and fried chicken. Oh, and strawberry shortcake for dessert.

It was great meeting Snoopygirl's friends, too :-D

    Thanks for all the fish
The girl who fixed nxtdrguy and I up on the worst blind date ever had her "you're laid off now get the fcuk out of here" party tonight. We didn't attend as we went to her pity party dinner last Friday, at which she pulled the "you guys are paying for me, right?" when the bill came. That was basically the last straw for all of us. She's pulled shit like that over the course of the 5 years I've known her and it comes as a relief to say goodbye. Before, we all felt obligated to be friends as we also worked closely with her department, but now it feels as if a huge weight's been lifted and we no longer need to nurture the relationship. Before anyone thinks nxtdrguy and I are being cruel as she was the one who introduced us, let me just say, neither of us really said a word to each other on that date, and it wasn't until 2 1/2 years later that we finally started seeing each other. So, while we credit her with introducing us, the relationship itself is due to our mutual love of chocolate and video games :-D

Overall it's been a crappy week - it started with me getting food poisoning and ended with me having worked 12 hour days 5 days in a row. I'm tired and my apartment's a mess. My mom called to ask where I wanted my birthday dinner and I swear I started crying because it was too much to think about. Nxtdrguy and I decided to have my family bday dinner Saturday night to get it out of the way and that way my actual bday will be relatively stress free. Then it begins all over again on Monday...

On a lighter note, I'm stealing an idea from A Hobbit and posting a few pics of myself as a youngin'. Don't worry Carmen - nary a booger in sight!

I think this is from my first birthday, which is particulary fitting since I've got yet another birthday on Sunday:
    the family

This one's fairly representative of me as a kid - west coast beach and a doll. I'm sure we ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and that try as we might, sand got into them.

All righty, now I'm off to bed.

    WTF
The summer heat seems to have fried people's brains... There's all kinds of drama over at TIB - especially in the buy and sell section. Seller's are calling dolls *mint* when they're clearly not, and gawd forbid anyone say anything about it - they act as if you've killed their first born. A little defensive, no? Perhaps it's because THEY KNOW THEY WERE WRONG and were embarassed to be called on it. It's really fcuking irritating.

    Serenity
In addition to my predilection for collecting dolls, I'm also a full-blown knitting-freak and techno-geek. So, Blythe + knitting + techno-geek = a Blythe-size Jayne Cobb hat. (Jayne Cobb is a character from the short-lived series Firefly and movie Serenity - in one episode, his mother sends him a knitted hat and this is my version).

My CB, Leia, has been sorely neglected and was only de-boxed last week after she finally told me her name. Turns out, she's not stuck up at all, just a little shy. She fully relates to River from Firefly/Serenity and helped model the Jayne Cobb hat by dressing up as her.

    Hope you all like it!
